Networking at the level of “fun!”
What does networking mean to you? I know my definition has always been a way of developing a deeper
relationship… whether on a personal or business note.
So, why can’t networking also include fun? The guys out there already have this down to a science. Many a business deal has been made on the golf course. And think of all the money that corporations spend on sky boxes for ballgames. They don’t spend this type of money without seeing something in return, right?
Isn’t it funny how men grasp the concept and we women spend more time with the hustle bustle of a networking meeting, shaking hands, introducing ourselves, listening to a speaker and eating the proverbial “chicken lunch box?” Not that we don’t have fun doing so, but don’t you agree… it’s not the only way?
That’s why a few of us started a “fun” networking group called the Red Bag Ladies a few years back. We don’t just shop together, we do other fun activities, too, like cooking classes, movies and lots of other fun to do’s. We do have a lot of fun, but don’t be mistaken, there’s a lot of genuine relationships being built, too.
What’s really puzzling to me, though, is how a lot of people don’t understand the networking part. I hear others say all the time, “sounds like a lot of fun, but I’ve got to stay in today and work on getting business in the door.” And it really makes me wonder why they don’t see that “business coming in the door” could be through building a deeper relationship one-on-one while on one of our fun excursions.
Believe me, business does occur here, but in a much more relaxed (and fun) way. So, why not think up some fun ways to build business relationships with your circle of friends, too?
Cheers all,
Carm
